Fish Kills - Branford, CT

Today David and I took our dinghy to the DEP Branford Launch. When we got there we saw thousands of dead bloated fish floating through the water. Through our recent adventures on the Quinippiac and though New Haven Harbor I've seen first hand how many pollutants are in CT rivers and streams. I kept on asking David, "what do you think happened?" He reminded me that I can now look things up on my phone! Turns the same thing happened last year around this time. Apparently, the DEP has blamed the 2007 incident on lack of oxygen. The Bluefish chase the Bunker upstream because so many of them get jammed packed in a narrow area, they run out of oxygen and die. The same article also suggested that it might be the result of a Atlantic Wire company who has been notorious for dumping toxins into the Branford River. (got to go to bed... write more tomorrow)
